United States Senator Dianne Feinstein VIA FACSIMILE 202-228-3954
Dear Senator Feinstein,
The San Luis Obispo Mothers for Peace Action Committee strongly urges you to call for removal of the 100 percent nuclear loan guarantees from the Energy Policy Act of 2007. Despite 50 years of government subsidies, nuclear technology is still unable to compete in an open market and still lacks a solution to the dangerous and long-term problems presented by radioactive waste.
Taxpayer monies should instead be used to help secure a future of safe, clean and sustainable power for the American people. Wind, solar, tidal, biomass and geothermal sources would create energy and jobs without the dangers of radioactivity or the pollutants of coal. It is time to plan for a healthy future rather than to continue to invest in nuclear plants that create lethal wastes and are known targets of terrorists.
