February 26, 2026: Central Coast Regional Water Board Hearing on Diablo Canyon Permits
February 26, 8am
in person at the Central Coast Water Board Office
895 Aerovista Place, Suite 101, SLO
or via Zoom

Senate Bill 846 passed by California legislation in 2022 allows for extended operation of Diablo Canyon nuclear plant if certain conditions are met.
The Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board is preparing to issue two permits which are required for continued operation. The permits include:
1. a five-year renewal of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. This permit regulates discharges into the Diablo Cove. These discharges include: heated water, desalination brine, stormwater, domestic wastewater, chlorine, metals – including lead, mercury, nickel, silver, and more. The Once-Through Cooling system causes entrainment and impingement (death) of countless billions of larval fish and planktonic organisms.
2. the issuance of a Clean Water Act section 401 water quality certification.
TELL THE BOARD TO REJECT THESE PERMITS AND PG&E’S EFFORTS TO UNNECESSARILY EXTEND THE OPERATION OF DAIBLO CANYON!
Central Coast Water Board Mission:
To preserve, enhance, and restore the quality of the Central Coast Region’s water resources for the protection of the environment, public health, and all beneficial uses, for the benefit of present and future generations.
