Tell the Board of Supervisors: A public forum should inform, not advocate!
Despite objections, the SLO County Board of Supervisors voted to join the Diablo Canyon 2045 Coalition. And now it’s hosting an “informational session”.

“Diablo Canyon 2045: Local and Statewide Implications” is being promoted as an informational session, but the announced lineup is overwhelmingly one-sided. The featured panelists support extending Diablo Canyon’s operation, and PG&E will present its views on safety and operations.
What’s missing are independent economists, including researchers from UC Santa Barbara’s 2035 Initiative (The Economics of Diablo Canyon, maximizing pollution reduction while protecting California ratepayers and Taxpayers), analysis from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) and The Utility Reform Network (TURN), whose research estimates a 20-year extension could cost $20-45 billion. Also excluded are independent seismic experts, public health professionals, consumer advocates, and all environmental organizations – including San Luis Obispo Mothers for Peace, despite over 50 years of involvement with Diablo Canyon.
This isn’t about being pro- or anti-nuclear. It’s about ensuring that the public hears all sides of the issues – financial and safety.
