After the Fukushima disaster in 2011, no government agency took on the responsibility of monitoring the level of radioactive contamination in the ocean. So Mothers for Peace (specifically Molly Johnson) regularly takes samples of ocean water off the Pismo Beach pier and sends it to Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for analysis. https://www.whoi.edu
