How radioactive is our ocean?

Mothers for Peace has been monitoring the levels of radiation in ocean water from Pismo Beach since the Fukushima disaster in 2011. Periodically, we collect and send a water sample to Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for analysis.

With the Japanese dumping radioactive wastewater into the ocean which began on August 24, 2023, monitoring is even more imperative. We are unaware of any government agency doing this work, so we must.

Our most recent sample was from November 2023. Below is the cumulative graph of the results.
