SLOMFP letter to State Lands Commission

Mothers for Peace asks the California State Lands Commission to require an environmental review of PG&E’s request for new leases of tidelands adjacent to Diablo Canyon nuclear plant.

April 24, 2016

P.O. Box 3608

San Luis Obispo, CA 93403-3608

TO:           Betty T. Yee, State Controller and Chair, SLC

                 Gavin Newsom, Lieutenant Governor

                 Michael Cohen, Finance Director

FROM:    Jane Swanson, Spokesperson
San Luis Obispo Mothers for Peace

RE:          Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s application for lease of tidelands

San Luis Obispo Mothers for Peace has three requests of the State Lands Commission (SLC).

  1. We urge the SLC to require a thorough environmental impact study of the proposed lease.
  2. We request confirmation that Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E’s) application for new leases of tidelands at the site of the Diablo Canyon nuclear plant will be included on the agenda of the June 28, 2016 SLC meeting. We read newspaper reports to that effect but see no confirmation of that schedule on the website of SLC.
  3. We request early assurances that the June 28, 2016 meeting in Sacramento will be webcast to a public location in San Luis Obispo County and that the technology used will enable those present to make statements at appropriate times to the SLC. Attendance at the SLC meeting would otherwise require a long drive and the expense of an overnight stay for citizens of San Luis Obispo County.
